Onyx Solar Receives Contract for World’s Largest PV Skylight
Onyx Solar won a contract to supply 60,000 square feet of semi-transparent photovoltaic glass for Somerset Development’s Bell Works Complex in Holmdel, New Jersey. The project is part of the complete revitalization of the two-million-square-foot former Bell Labs facility into a mixed-use “metroburb” community.
Originally designed by Eero Saarinen, the building’s existing glass will be replaced with the photovoltaic skylight, maintaining the original aesthetics. Onyx Solar will fabricate a total of 3,200 units, creating the largest photovoltaic skylight in the world, upon completion, company officials report.
