Helping solar developers to market & sell their projects worldwide – Michael Ernst, General Council, Sr. Vice President at Clean Power Inc

During Intersolar Europe 2017, held recently in Munich, Germany, we spoke to Michael Ernst,  General Council & Sr. Vice President at Clean Power Inc about their recent developments and plans. 

Michel, right hand of Mary O’Donnella passionate green business woman who runs a sustainable & renewable farm in Kingston, Massachusetts, has over 30 years of energy experience as an energy and environmental attorney for NGOs, Mass. state agencies, a Boston energy law firm, an independent transmission development company, the number one wind farm environmental consultant in the U.S., and now as General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Clean Power Inc. For CPI, Mr. Ernst has helped conduct due diligence and broker several solar and wind farms in the Dominican Republic, Khazakhstan, Subsaharan Africa, and Philippines. He has met with government and transmission officials in the Dominican Republic and the Philippines, where he drafted documents to acquire and maintain rights to two 48-MW solar photovoltaic farms for CPI.

At Tetra Tech, Mr. Ernst supported the siting and permitting of offshore wind parks and submarine cables off ten states from Maine to Virginia and in the Great Lakes and Hawaii, including the first offshore wind farm in the U.S. off Block Island, RI. Before joining Tetra Tech, Mr. Ernst served as Vice President of a transmission development company that built submarine cables including the high voltage direct current Cross Sound Cable from New Haven, CT, to Long Island, NY.

Mr. Ernst was General Counsel and Legislative Director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities during electric industry restructuring and a Hearing Officer for the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board for new power plants and transmission lines. He also served as Counsel to the Joint Committee on Energy of the Massachusetts Legislature for six years and clean energy advocate for Union of Concerned Scientists and MassPIRG.

He earned his Juris Doctor at Northeastern University School of Law in Boston and a Bachelor of Sciences at Davidson College, Davidson, NC (Junior Year Abroad in Germany).
