Welcome to our 25th edition of our weekly news. All of us here at SolarPV.TV have really been enjoying the excitement of the Winter Olympics, watching all those athletes trying to win Gold or even create a new world record.

In today’s news we report on a company; Kyocera who have claimed a world record in their own field, module conversion efficiency. We also hear of IBM’s new solar cell the CTZSS.

We also take a look at Reuters, which reports that subsidy cuts throughout Europe promise more business for Chinese solar companies at the expense of European and American competitors. Analysts have predicted German companies such as Q-Cells, Solon and SolarWorld could be among the worst hit.

Other news in brief....ReneSola announce a large 600 MW contract, India’s solar production capacity exceeds 1GW, SunPower are to buy SunRay for $277M, Calisolar Inc. acquire 6N Silicon Inc and GDF Suez set  to Build Largest Solar PV System at 33-MW.

We also bring you details of the 4th PV Fab Managers Forum organised by SEMI PV Group in Berlin from the 9th to the 11th of March.

Moreover, in our recycling focus we will approach experiences from other sectors:

  • Dr. Eckart Doering - Manager Batch Supply, Glass Ceramics & Borofloat at Schott AG, talks to us about synergies between TV monitor recycling and Solar PV.

During the conference we did the following interviews, which are being uploaded constantly on SolarPV.TV:

  • "PV Cycle today and tomorrow", Dr. Karsten Wambach, President of PV CYCLE
  • "Making the Photovoltaic Industry 'Double Green'", Jan Clyncke, Managing Director of PV CYCLE
  • Recycling per Module Technology - State-of-the-Art
    • Thin Film
      • "First Solar’s Collection and Recycling Program", Interview with Lisa Krueger, VP Sustainable Development, First Solar
      • "Major challenges in recycling of thin film modules", Marc Suys, EH&S Manager, 5NPV
    • Crystaline
      • "Major challenges related to recycling of Solar PV modules", Dr. Sylke Schlenker, Head of Marketing, Sunicon AG
  • Recycling activities in USA
    • "US should follow efforts started by PV CYCLE in Europe", Prof. Vasilis Fthenakis, Head, National Photovoltaic EH&S Research Center at Brookhaven National Laboratory
  • Recycling experiences from other sectors, with:
    • "Differences in recycling of Solar PV modules and electronic sector", Thierry Dalle Business Development and Project Manager, Umicore Recycling Solutions
    • "Synergies between TV monitor recycling and Solar PV", Dr. Eckart Doering - Manager Batch Supply, Glass Ceramics & Borofloat at Schott AG

More information about 4th PV Fab Managers Forum:

The new format of the 4th PV Fab Manager Forum will address the contribution of technology and manufacturing to reach Grid Parity as soon as possible in order to generate new growth and prospects for our industry.

Discussing Burning Challenges of PV Manufacturing

For the first time the Photovoltaic market has reached a point of saturation where supply passed demand despite the fact that falling silicon prices, higher cell efficiency and productivity were stimulating the market. However, it will be a matter of time until the second wave of strong demand will come. It seems simple but it will be challenging to accomplish after the breathtaking progress that has already been made by the industry in the last couple of years.

  • What are the critical drivers to initiate a long term growth?
  • What could be the common nominator for Photovoltaic to be captured in a long term Roadmap comparable to the Moore’s law?

The PV Fab Managers Forum is not just another conference but a forum to discuss the "burning challenges" of PV production between fab managers and equipment suppliers.

Register now and join us and be a part of this important executive forum. See you in Berlin!

Keynotes:

Status of the global PV industry
